Notes: He did not mention that there were 2 Vietnam pavilions. He only visited the one decorated with yellow flags. Senator Ngo does not represent the Vietnamese community in Canada, but reflects the divisiveness and hostility of all Canadian politicians toward the Vietnamese community. One assumes that the government paid for his trip. His photo collection does not show how his people were protesting against the other Vietnam group. That's OK, we have pictures. There is a long story behind the Vietnamese activities at Surrey Fusion, but basically there was a non-political group there representing Vietnamese culture and the Senator's people did not like that -- in their view all publicly visible Vietnamese must explicitly identify as nationals of the RVN. Most Vietnamese refuse to inject politics into their cultural activities, so years of public protest have ensued. Surrey stubbornly remains neutral, while most government would have given in to the ARVN people. The bibliography has other material on this. |
