Alberta unanimously passed a parliamentary motion by Jason Kenney recognizing Journey to Freedom Day. Kenney (in opposition at this time) took the revised history adopted by the federal government and embellished it even further. He spoke like a true ideologue, with no concessions to reality. He had, of course, a few members of the former Saigon elite around to back up anything he said. Another huge insult to Canadians of Vietnamese origin and the Canadians who helped. If only he had said that he was recognizing the ARVN instead of "the Vietnamese community" he could have said anything he wanted to. (Alberta Hansard, 2018-04-30).^[281]

April 25, 2018

Something described as a "touching ceremony" was held in the BC Legislature building, led by Senator Ngo. It was a "flag raising ceremony" and reception where everyone got to make a speech and wear a yellow flag to express their hostility toward those who could not hear the speeches. (Ngo, 2018).^[350]

Statements were made in the legislature. Adrian Dix's (NDP) statement was typically hostile and full of revised facts. We wrote a Fact check on Adrian Dix. Andrew Wilkinson (Lib.) made a respectful statement with no revisionism and no hostility. (BC Debates, 2018-04-25).^[280]

Flag raising ceremony. The RVN flag raised on the "courtesy flag pole" at the Ontario legislative building. No sign of participation by politicians at the actual event. In his description of the event, Senator Ngo re-iterates how important the revision of the history of the boat people is to the whole thing. He said: "the Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom flag was once again hoisted in solemn commemoration of the modern beginnings of Canada’s Vietnamese community". It's also a testament to the gullibility of Canadian politicians.

Flag raising ceremony. The RVN flag raised on the "courtesy flag pole" at the Ontario legislative building. Many federal, provincial, and municipal politicians spoke at the podium with the ARVN crest. Not all have been identified in the photos. (Ngo, 2017). ^[352]
