Notes: Excellent analysis of what Harper was doing to the Vietnamese community in Canada. Written in the academic language of Social work, so not an easy read. The only criticism I have is that she is still living in Harper's "alternate reality" in terms of how there came to be a Vietnamese community in Canada, and the analysis is all done in that context. As a consequence of that she equates "Canada" with "Harper's Canada". In this context she also equates the "yellow flag" political activists with the "older generation", or the "original refugees". This is perhaps a reflection of the fact that certain political elements within the Vietnamese community were spreading Harper's lies long before Harper came along. I have downgraded the "reliability" rating of this valuable item slightly because of these omissions. |

My family’s escape from Vietnam was an opportunistic one, as my family had no allegiances to either side of the war but saw the chance to flee the current violent, impoverished, and oppressed climate of post-colonial and post-war Vietnam"
