Notes: Journey to Freedom day is a partisan statement about the Vietnam war wherein Canada formally recognizes the Saigon regime as a legitimate government through a military flag raising ceremony. Government is dividing Canada's Vietnamese refugees along partisan lines from the war: those who identify with the Saigon regime and those who do not. See quotations for the Senator's description of the event. The ceremony, held at the Parliament Buildings, included a flag raising, political speakers, Senate medal awards, a proclamation from the City of Ottawa as well as a trip to the National War Memorial for a military memorial. Political attendees identified by the Senator include Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Official Opposition, Ms. Anne Thu Quach, MP for Salaberry-Suroît and honorable senators, Mr. Marc Gold and Mrs. Mobina Jaffer. Photographs posted by Senator Ngo show 3 other Conservative M.P.s with Mr. Scheer. Note that all of the 2018 JFD events were called "Flag Raising Ceremonies" on the main banners. The event is no longer purports to be about refugees, but is about recognizing the national flag of the RVN. In this ceremony, which did not include the military men, they got the flag protocol right. That strongly suggest that those military men are coming from the US, because they are using US flag protocols. The additional links contain a link to a YouTube video. |
